More information has emerged regarding the cast of Valkyria Chronicles 2 and how they’ll go about waging “politics by other means.”

The game’s ragtag band of playable heroes is reportedly helmed by a hot-headed fellow dubbed Avan, a recent transfer to the academy. The calm, seemingly level-headed Jerry plays the straight man to Avan’s loose cannon, though Jerry has a spot of passion and zeal that he keeps hidden from others. Cosset Kolhas is the group’s cheerful aspiring doctor, though her apparent clumsiness calls to question her ability to handle a scalpel. Lastly, a new type of enemy troop will be wearing mech suits, dubbed Man-Made Valkyrias. Rumors that the group will be joined by a buddy cop duo or a destined child with amnesia have not been substantiated.

As for the gameplay, it has been confirmed that characters can change classes after meeting certain conditions and earning enough credits in the academy; one specific example suggests Avan can become either an advanced scout or a dedicated sniper. Tank customization via the Research and Development center is to be expanded as well, and vehicles sport a new as-yet-unexplained parameter called “carry.” Missions are doled out in the Tactics Room, which separates them according to importance to the story.

Additional academy locations have been revealed in screenshots, including a store, an arena, and a courtyard, but their details and functions are not yet known.
